| My great uncle, Joseph Haspell was born on board a canal boat here in Butts Basin on the 30th January 1870. My great grandfather, Henry Haspell was a boatman born in Cheshire in 1848, but who settled in Leigh. |

I used to cycle by the spot where this photo was taken. The army huts were used for judo and weight lifting. I joined the weight training club and trained mainly with Malcolm Bailey.
